WATER-JEL TECHNOLOGIES METIS GROUP ELIZABETH WUERSLIN, MD, MPH
Water-Jel Technologies was founded to provide fast, safe and effective burn care treatment. Water-Jel Technologies

For the past 22 years, Water-Jel Technologies, based in Carlstadt, New Jersey, has led the emergency burn care industry. It was the first company to introduce water-based gel technology in 1980, when Water-Jel earned FDA Classification for its life-saving Fire Blanket as a Medical Device. It currently serves the occupational, health and safety, industrial, fire/EMS and Military markets.
The fire blanket was the first of many water-based products that the company now manufactures and distributes, including sterile burn dressings in foil packages, introduced in 1985 for smaller area burns. In 1995, Water-Jel created Burn Jel, with Lidocaine and added Unburn and unit dose First Aid Creams and Ointments to their product line. In 2000 it expanded into First Aid Sprays and Adhesive Bandages.
In 1990, the U.S Army and Navy officially specified Water-Jel products for Emergency First Aid use.
Water-Jel’s manufacturing facilities in Carlstadt have grown, and a new warehouse and distribution facility was added in 2000. A new manufacturing site has been added in Longueuil, Canada to fill the demand for branded and private label bandage business. Two distribution centers were created in England and Norway in 2001 to better serve Water-Jel’s international market.
Water-Jel products have been used everywhere from the battlefields of Kuwait to oil refineries in Texas, to manufacturing and utility facilities and fire and EMS departments throughout the United States and the world.
